How to Remove and Refit Rover 25 and MG ZR Headlights

As a precursor to removing the headlight unit, you need to remove a few other parts first.

Please follow my how to guides below before starting Step 1 of this guide;

It's also good practice to disconnect the negative battery terminal when installing or removing parts with electrical connections.

Step 1

Once the front bumper has been removed and the negative battery terminal disconnected, take the 10mm socket and remove the three bolts holding the headlight to the chassis.

Take extra care when removing these bolts, as the brackets on the headlights are plastic and prone to snapping. There are two on the top of the light and one inside the engine bay at the bottom of the light.

Step 2

When the bolts are removed the light should come away from the chassis, now you just need to remove the two multiplugs on the back of the headlight unit.

To remove the light brown one (the colour of yours may differ, please see the image below for reference) take a small flat head screw driver and lever the metal clip away from the headlight unit, the plug should then pull off.

The other plug requires you to squeeze the end of the clips on the side, then pull it away from the headlight.

Step 3

The headlight should now be free to be removed from the car.

Step 4

To refit the headlight just follow steps 1 - 2 in reverse order, then reattach the front bumper and negative battery terminal.
