How to Remove and Refit the Rover 25 / MG ZR Gear Knob
Step 1
Locate the gear knob, start turning the gear knob anticlockwise, if the gear knob does not turn and does not become noticeably loose then you have a push on gear knob.Removing a push on gear knob requires that you twist the silver collar, this will loosen the plastic clips within the gear knob allowing the knob to just pull off.
If the gear knob does start to become loose from turning, then continue doing this until the gear knob comes completely off. It is quite a long thread on the gear stick so it takes a few revolutions.

Step 2
Refitting is a case of doing the opposite of what you did in step 1, push on gear knobs push on then you simply tighten the silver collar* to keep it in place.Screw on gear knobs screw clockwise until tight and aligned with the gear locations, i.e. 1st gear is indicated to be left and up.
*It is known for this not to work. The push on gear knobs are a poor design, usually it does not require you to either tighten or loosen the silver collar to allow the gear knob to come off or go back on.
