How to Remove and Refit the Exhaust Manifold Heatshield

Step 1

You will need to locate the exhaust manifold and its heatshield in the engine bay, it sits just behind the radiator at the front of the engine, as shown below.

Step 2

There are two bolts and one nut that hold the heatshield in place. This is where the 10mm and 13mm socket are required.

13mm Socket
Both of the bolts require the 10mm socket to remove them. The bolts are located at the top right of the heatshield and very bottom.

The best method to get at this bolt is to go from the top of the engine bay stretching down to reach it, as opposed to coming from beneath the car, as you will be able to get more movement on the ratchet and a better holding.

The nut is located at the top left of the heatshield, and requires the 13mm socket.

Step 3

After removing the nut and bolts, you should be able to just lift out the heatshield. When removed the engine bay will look as follows.

Once removed, the metal spacer from behind the nut can be removed. It is shown in the image below.

Step 4 (optional)

Whilst the heatshield is removed, it's the ideal time to respray it to freshen up your engine bay.

I hung mine from a washing line using some thin string through the top fixing holes, then sprayed it with a heat resistant silver paint.
